Enjoy Four Fun Facts for the Fourth of July!
Today we celebrate Independence Day, but did you know that the Fourth of July was not made a federal holiday until 1870, almost 100 years after America was founded!
In a letter to his wife Abigail, John Adams mentioned that he believed Independence Day would be celebrated on July 2nd since that was the day Congress actually voted to officially sever America’s ties with Britain.
Only two founding fathers signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4th. Most of the others didn’t sign until August 2nd.
Happy Independence Day and Happy….Birthday? President Coolidge was born on the fourth of July; Nathaniel Hawthorne, Gloria Stuart, and Malia Obama also have birthdays on July 4th!
